Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Chair
Edward Ellis III, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Ellis is Chair and a Professor of Surgery in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also directs the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency.
Dr. Ellis’ clinical interests are in maxillofacial traumatology and dentofacial deformities. In addition to chairing the department and supervising the residents, he maintains an intramural practice. Dr. Ellis has authored over 200 scientific articles and two books. In 1997, he received the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) Research Recognition Award for his research endeavors and in 2015 receive the first AAOMS Clinical Research Award.
Dr. Ellis is active nationally and internationally in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is the past President of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has served on many editorial boards for various scientific journals. In 2004, he was elected to Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of England and in 2016 he was elected to the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
