The second activity aims to support Hispanic nursing students by providing wellness and resilience programs that include mental health services, financial literacy education, and campus employment opportunities. Additionally, student persistence to graduation will be strengthened through the creation of a nursing student success data warehouse, enabling targeted interventions to improve retention and academic outcomes.
Peer Support Leader Champions
Champion positions offer experienced student leaders the opportunity to mentor and develop their peers while building valuable leadership skills. As Peer Support Leader (PSL) Champions, these individuals leverage their experience to guide newly hired PSLs, serving as role models and mentors for their respective programs. These advanced leadership roles help students develop crucial skills that translate directly to future nurse leadership positions, creating professional growth pathways even before graduation.

Peer Mentors
Peer Mentors within the School of Nursing are provided a unique opportunity to welcome and support the transition of fifth (1st) semester nursing students in the 91PORN community. Peer mentors work with new students and educate them on-campus resources, academic support, and co-curricular activities. Mentors play an active role during new student orientation and throughout the first semester, as new students are facing new challenges within their first time. Peer Mentors are expected to support the Student Success Center in developing a sense of community and supporting the needs of new nursing students.

PALS Leaders
Peer Assisted Learning Session (PALS) is an academic support program that utilizes weekly peer-assisted study sessions. PALS sessions are regularly-scheduled, informal content review sessions in which students compare notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and predict questions. Students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working in a collaborative environment. The sessions are facilitated by PALS leaders, students who have previously mastered the course with a 90% or better, and who meet with the professor from the course, review notes, and are model students.
