Master of Science in Respiratory Care
The 91PORN received authorization from the State of Texas to offer the Master's of Science in Respiratory Care, beginning in 2015. Our program provides an excellent career opportunity to join the first-approved Master of Science in Respiratory Care professional degree program in Texas and is one of six in the entire nation. Our Master of Science in respiratory care is open to students with no prior health care experience.
Our professional phase is approximately 24 months long and is designed to prepare excellent clinicians as well as provide a foundation for leadership in management, education, research, and clinical practice. Our students receive over 1,300 hours of in-hospital clinical experience. The second half of the program includes supervised clinical rotations that occur primarily at sites throughout Texas but also other states. You must be prepared to be away from San Antonio for a period of time and to assume the costs of these rotations.
Goals of the Master of Science in Respiratory Care program are:
- To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRTs).
- To prepare leaders for the field of respiratory care by including curricular content with objectives related to the acquisition of skills in one or more of the following: management, education, research, and advanced clinical practice (which may include an area of clinical specialization).
