The UT School of Public Health San Antonio is proud to announce that , will serve as the new Chair of the Texas Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Coalition. This appointment marks a significant step forward in the fight against HPV-related cancers in South Texas and across the state.

, formed in 2017, brings together a diverse group of professionals and organizations dedicated to increasing HPV vaccination rates and eliminating cancers caused by the virus. With Texas historically lagging behind in HPV vaccination rates, the Coalition's work is crucial for improving public health outcomes.

Thompson, a faculty member in the Quantitative and Qualitative Health Sciences department, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to HPV prevention. Her research focuses on HPV vaccination, cancer prevention and broader reproductive and maternal health issues. This aligns perfectly with the Coalition's mission and will greatly benefit the School and the health of South Texans.
