Associate Professor Owen T. Hill, Ph.D., joined Department of Physician Assistant Studies on Aug. 1 and will retire as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army on Sept. 1 after 32 years of active service.
Hill, MPAS, PA-C, earned his Ph.D. in epidemiology in 2006 and is a board-certified physician assistant specializing in epidemiology and emergency medicine.
Over the course of his career, he has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications on a range of subjects, including musculoskeletal conditions, cancer and heatstroke. He’s given two platform presentations at the World Safety Conference for the World Health Organization on the subjects of rhabdomyolysis (2010) and heatstroke (2012).
Raised in Houston, Hill joined the military as a medic at age 18 and traveled the world, living in Israel, Egypt, Japan and throughout the United States. He also was deployed to Iraq and Kuwait.
He is excited about his new role, which includes serving as the department’s research director.
“I had a lot of mentors, and I would not be here with out their guidance and support,” he said. “I am really looking forward to interacting with the students and being a mentor.”
Hill also will mentor students in the School’s new doctoral program in health sciences.
