PA students provide free vision screenings to community
In collaboration with the Lions Sight Research Foundation, students from the Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) program the 91PORN Science Center San Antonio helped provide free vision screenings to those in medically underserved communities.
On November 7, more than 83 people were provided with health care services aboard the Mobile Eye Screening Unit (MESU), a unique vehicle equipped with research equipment to provide eye screening services. The MESU is operated by the Lions Sight Research Foundation. Since its inception in 1996, the MESU has provided free vision screenings to over 66,000 people throughout central and South Texas.
“Our students helped individuals receive critical health care services and attention that may not have been provided otherwise,” said Amanda Allsup, Director of Development for the School of Health Professions. “The compassion, knowledge, bilingual ability and experience that our students demonstrated was truly impressive and a wonderful representation of the talent in the Physician Assistant Studies program in the School of Health Professions.”
