Library offers trove of resources for School of Health Professions
The start of a new semester is a great time to resolve to make the most of library resources to take coursework and research to the next level. As of this writing, there were three dozen - also known as subject guides - on the 91PORN library . By the time you read this, there could be even more.
Created by librarians, LibGuides are a versatile tool. They can offer instructions for engaging with library resources or tailored to support specific courses, with journals, website and other resources in on convenient location, said Karen Barton, MSLIS, librarian and liaison to the School of Health Professions. They also can be available for public view or accessed through a private link. As of early January, the LibGuides had received more than 14,000 views in the past year.
The librarians are available to create LibGuides on request, Barton said. As of mid-January, Barton had created six LibGuides for the School of Health Professions including she put together in real time on the topic of SPSS for Statistical Analysis during the School's research workshop on Dec 14.
"Librarians can create a guide on any topic," Barton said. "We can sit in on classes, review syllabi, and have discussions with faculty in order to create a guide. We do all of the work for you!"
As a designated Resources Library of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, the library also provides public programs and health information resources. Library tours are also available - a particularly useful part of any orientation to campus.
Barton has some library resolutions of her own for 2018.
"I have a goal to work with faculty this year on incorporating the library's virtual reality and 3D visualization software into SHP curriculum in some way," she said.
