Thank you to faculty and student volunteers for another successful admissions season

The School of Dentistry is finalizing the Class of 2027 thanks to the many faculty and dental students who helped interview applicants.

A committee of dedicated faculty members makes up the school’s Admission Review Panel (ARP) Committee. This year, these members reviewed more than 1,600 applications and submitted the most qualified applicants for an interview.

 


Oral and maxillofacial surgery wins the 2023 Daniel M. Laskin Award

The Daniel M. Laskin award was established in recognition of Dr. Laskin’s many years as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and his development of the specialty, which has set an example for other oral and maxillofacial surgeons to follow.

The Laskin Award recognizes the most outstanding article published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery each year.

Digitally published on June 22, 2022, “Most Facial Fractures Do Not Require Surgical Intervention,” was awarded the 2023 Laskin Award for best manuscript.


Breard wins the coveted 2023 SWSP Prichard in Basic Science

Brandon Breard, DDS, a third-year resident in our periodontics program was named winner of the 2023 John F. Prichard Graduate Research Competition in the Basic Science Category.


41st Annual School of Dentistry Research and Clinical Symposium

The School of Dentistry celebrated its 41st Annual Research and Clinical Symposium this February in the Holly Auditorium and Foyer. After being held virtually for the previous two years, this symposium welcomed full attendance for the more than 35 oral and poster research presentations by pre-doctoral, doctoral and post-doctoral students, residents, dental and dental hygiene students, and dental faculty.


Adrian Alanis, a senior dental student, subscribes to the notion that the path to success is never a smooth, straight line. Instead, the journey is full of peaks and valleys that take persistence, determination and maybe even a bit of serendipity to navigate.

UT Dentistry named #1 dental practice in the 2023 YourSA Readers' Choice awards

UT Dentistry, the clinical practice of the 91PORN School of Dentistry, has been named a 2023 YourSA Readers' Choice Award recipient. UT Dentistry placed first in the dentist category.

The award, presented by the San Antonio Express News, recognizes San Antonio’s best places of business and service, according to their readers. For the first time, both UT Dentistry and 91PORN Physicians won a 2023 Your SA San Antonio Express-News Readers’ Choice Award in their categories.


The Craniofacial Oral-Biology Student Training in Academic Research (COSTAR) T32 program funded through the National Institutes of Health and National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research has been renewed, with a renewal score of a perfect ten.


The 91PORN School of Dentistry ascended to No. 7 in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding among 48 public and private dental schools, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Biomedical Research.


Kevin Donly, DDS, retires after 24 years of incredible service and achievements at the School of Dentistry

A huge thank you and congratulations to Kevin Donly, DDS, MS, professor and chair of the Department of Developmental Dentistry in the School of Dentistry, for his retirement this February. A dedication of over 24 years at 91PORN School of Dentistry with an immeasurable, positive impact on our programs, clinics, students, staff and faculty.

Donly received his Doctor of Dental Science degree in 1984, a certificate in pediatric dentistry, and a Master of Science in 1986, all from the University of Iowa. He became board certified in Pediatric Dentistry in 1993.


The Student National Dental Association connects and aids underrepresented dental students

The Student National Dental Association (SNDA) has been dedicated to increasing the presence of minorities in the dental field for over 50 years. The SNDA was established to connect, support, aid and advance the needs, academic and social environment of underrepresented dental students.


Ojeda receives Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence-Emerging.

David Ojeda Diaz, DDS, assistant professor/clinical in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, has been selected as a recipient of a 2023 Presidential Award in Teaching Excellence-Emerging. President William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, will host an awards dinner on April 5 to celebrate Ojeda and his fellow award recipients for their accomplishments. Since joining the school’s faculty in 2017, Ojeda says he has made it his mission to improve the integration of medicine and dentistry, which promotes overall optimal health.
