SADHA members create short video documenting changes to their program post-COVID-19
Members of the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association (SADHA) answered a challenge by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) to submit a short video showcasing how students are overcoming academic and clinical challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senior dental hygiene student, Leslie Sanchez, serves as the students’ video committee lead and felt it was essential to have fun with the project despite the serious subject matter.
“We wanted to give outsiders a glimpse of the adjustments the dental hygiene program has made in the midst of a pandemic,” Leslie said. “While COVID-19 has created many challenges this semester, we wanted to showcase our experience in a light-hearted way. I think it’s an important reminder that despite the circumstances, we can still have a positive experience.”
While the submission did not place in ADHA’s friendly competition, Sara Kneip, SADHA president and fellow senior student, felt that the process of creating together was ultimately a win for the group.
“Creating this video was a great way for us to communicate the challenges we have faced in a humorous way,” she announced. “We were inspired by the changes we have experienced this semester with virtual learning, new PPE [personal protective equipment] and clinic requirements. We have had an innovative year and we are thankful we get the continue serving our community.”
