Angela Palaiologou Gallis named president of the American Board of Periodontology
Please join us in congratulating , professor and director of the Postdoctoral Periodontics Program in the Department of Periodontics, on her well-deserved appointment as the president of the American Board of Periodontology (ABP).
Palaiologou Gallis grew up in Athens, Greece, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. After arriving to the United States, she completed a certificate in periodontics and Master of Science degree at Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2000, supported by a full scholarship. Palaiologou Gallis returned to Athens to practice solo for seven years before returning to LSU to pursue a career in academics in 2007. In the same year, she received ABP certification and served as the graduate program director at LSU from 2009 to 2018.
Palaiologou Gallis previously served as the vice president of the ABP, was a part of several committees and task forces for the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), and was elected chair of the AAP Postdoctoral Directors Organization. Most recently in 2023, she received the Master Clinician Award from the School of Dentistry, honoring her achievements in advanced periodontics and impacts on patient care. Palaiologou Gallis has received commercial funding for several clinical as well as in vitro research projects. Her research interests include translational research on bone and soft tissue healing, periodontal regeneration and dental implants.
